Hair

I wanted engaged the space between the choice to see hair as beautiful or seeing hair as viscerally disgusting. Hair looks at this space through the interactive and material way. Hair confronts the viewer when walking into the space to make aware the choice one takes when interacting with the piece.

Hair

Within Un-Removed: Back, Under Arm, Legs, and Crotch, I explore the dichotomies of one reaction to hair: beauty and disgust. Un-Removed looks at how hair is seen on other people through pop-culture and fashion. Both Hair and Un-Removed pushes the experience of both beauty and visceral disgust simultaneously.

I was inspired by the way hair dictates our emotions and lives. We live life through the lens that the hair on our bodies, both where it should and shouldn't be, defines our physical identities; however, when hair is distanced from our identities we find hair grotesque and disgusting. This piece was inspired by Tom Friedman's Untitled piece made of gum.
